It has a similar\u00a0<a title=\"Chemical polarity\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Chemical_polarity\">polarity<\/a>\u00a0to\u00a0<a title=\"Ethyl acetate\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ethyl_acetate\">ethyl acetate<\/a>, but greater stability towards\u00a0<a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Aqueous\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Aqueous\">aqueous<\/a>\u00a0<a title=\"Acid\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Acid\">acid<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a title=\"Base (chemistry)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Base_(chemistry)\">base<\/a>. It can be used to extract gold, silver and other precious metals from\u00a0<a title=\"Cyanide\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cyanide\">cyanide<\/a>\u00a0solutions, such as those found at gold mines, to determine the levels of those dissolved metals.\u00a0<a class=\"new\" title=\"Diisobutyl ketone (page does not exist)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/w\/index.php?title=Diisobutyl_ketone&amp;action=edit&amp;redlink=1\">Diisobutyl ketone<\/a>\u00a0(DIBK), a related lipophilic ketone, is also used for this purpose. Methyl isobutyl ketone is also used as a denaturing agent for\u00a0<a title=\"Denatured alcohol\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Denatured_alcohol\">denatured alcohol<\/a>. When mixed with water or isopropyl alcohol MIBK serves as a\u00a0<a title=\"Photographic developer\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Photographic_developer\">developer<\/a>\u00a0for\u00a0<a title=\"Poly(methyl methacrylate)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Poly(methyl_methacrylate)\">PMMA<\/a>\u00a0<a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Electron beam lithography\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Electron_beam_lithography\">electron beam lithography<\/a>\u00a0<a title=\"Resist\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Resist\">resist<\/a>.
