It will dissolve\u00a0<a title=\"Ethyl cellulose\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ethyl_cellulose\">ethyl cellulose<\/a>,\u00a0<a title=\"Polyvinyl butyral\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Polyvinyl_butyral\">polyvinyl butyral<\/a>, many oils, alkaloids, gums and natural resins.<sup id=\"cite_ref-Doolittle_7-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>\u00a0Unlike\u00a0<a title=\"Ethanol\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ethanol\">ethanol<\/a>\u00a0or\u00a0<a title=\"Methanol\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Methanol\">methanol<\/a>, isopropyl alcohol is not miscible with salt solutions and can be separated from\u00a0<a title=\"Aqueous solution\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Aqueous_solution\">aqueous solutions<\/a>\u00a0by adding a salt such as\u00a0<a title=\"Sodium chloride\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sodium_chloride\">sodium chloride<\/a>. The process is colloquially called\u00a0<i><a title=\"Salting out\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Salting_out\">salting out<\/a><\/i>, and causes concentrated isopropyl alcohol to separate into a distinct layer.<sup id=\"cite_ref-Merck_8-0\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Isopropyl_alcohol#cite_note-Merck-8\">[8]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Isopropyl alcohol forms an\u00a0<a title=\"Azeotrope\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Azeotrope\">azeotrope<\/a>\u00a0with water, which gives a boiling point of 80.37\u00a0\u00b0C (176.67\u00a0\u00b0F) and a composition of 87.7 wt% (91 vol%) isopropyl alcohol.
