The common name of this substance comes from its similarity and relation to\u00a0<a title=\"Formic acid\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Formic_acid\">formic acid<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Formaldehyde is an important precursor to many other materials and chemical compounds.
