Other names: Glycerin, Glycerine, Propanetriol, 1,2,3-Trihydroxypropane, 1,2,3-Propanetriol

Glycerine also called glycerol, is a simple polyol compound. It is a colorless, odorless, viscous liquid that is sweet-tasting and non-toxic. The glycerine backbone is found in lipids known as glycerides. Due to having antimicrobial and antiviral properties it is widely used in FDA approved wound and burn treatments. Conversely, it is also used as a bacterial culture medium. It can be used as an effective marker to measure liver disease. It is also widely used as a sweetener in the food industry and as a humectant in pharmaceutical formulations. Owing to the presence of three hydroxyl groups, glycerine is miscible with water and is hygroscopic in nature.

CAS: 56-81-5

Applications:
Food industry
In food and beverages, glycerol serves as a humectant, solvent, and sweetener, and may help preserve foods.

Medical, pharmaceutical and personal care applications
Glycerin is mildly antimicrobial and antiviral and is an FDA approved treatment for wounds. The Red Cross reports that an 85% solution of glycerin shows bactericidal and antiviral effects, and wounds treated with glycerin show reduced inflammation after roughly 2 hours. Due to this it is used widely in wound care products, including glycerin based hydrogel sheets for burns and other wound care. It is approved for all types of wound care except third degree burns, and is used to package donor skin used in skin grafts.

Antifreeze
Like ethylene glycol and propylene glycol, glycerol is a non-ionic kosmotrope that forms strong hydrogen bonds with water molecules, competing with water-water hydrogen bonds. This interaction disrupts the formation of ice. The minimum freezing point temperature is about −36 °F (−38 °C) corresponding to 70% glycerol in water.

Chemical intermediate
Glycerol is used to produce nitroglycerin, which is an essential ingredient of various explosives such as dynamite, gelignite, and propellants like cordite. Reliance on soap-making to supply co-product glycerol made it difficult to increase production to meet wartime demand.

Polyurethane thinner Masterchem PU-5030 is a mixture of polyurethane oligomer solution and organic solvents. When choosing a diluent for polyurethane paint, it is necessary to ensure that it contains alcohols, gasolines and nitrocom components and at the same time contains acetates or aromatic hydrocarbons.

This solvent is suitable for diluting polyurethane paints of all European manufacturers, being an analogue of the originals and differing only in price – more friendly for the client. Paint manufacturers protect their income by selling solvents, because for the most part they earn more on this product than on the polyurethane paint / varnish itself or hardeners for them. Therefore, they scare the client that polyurethane solvents from other manufacturers are not suitable.

We have been offering quality products for over 20 years and our customers are satisfied with the quality and cost savings.

Masterchem PU-5030 belongs to fast polyurethane thinners. We also have slower solvents – PU-5040, PU-5060 or PU-5062

MasterChem manufactures this solvent directly.

Thinner PU-5030 is a colorless or slightly yellowish liquid with a characteristic odor. It is used in production and in everyday life for diluting and bringing paints and varnishes to a working consistency.

Antimony trioxide (CAS 1309-64-4)

Antimony(III) oxide is the inorganic compound with the formula Sb2O3. It is the most important commercial compound of antimony. It is found in nature as the minerals valentinite and senarmontite. Like most polymeric oxides, Sb2O3 dissolves in aqueous solutions with hydrolysis. A mixed arsenic-antimony oxide occurs in the nature as the very rare mineral stibioclaudetite.

Antimony(III) oxide is an amphoteric oxide, it dissolves in aqueous sodium hydroxide solution to give the meta-antimonite NaSbO2, which can be isolated as the trihydrate. Antimony(III) oxide also dissolves in concentrated mineral acids to give the corresponding salts, which hydrolyzes upon dilution with water. With nitric acid, the trioxide is oxidized to antimony(V) oxide.

When heated with carbon, the oxide is reduced to antimony metal. With other reducing agents such as sodium borohydride or lithium aluminium hydride, the unstable and very toxic gas stibine is produced. When heated with potassium bitartrate, a complex salt potassium antimony tartrate, KSb(OH)2•C4H2O6 is formed.
